How long have you lived in Cleveland?
I have lived in Cleveland for 3 years and this last year was by far the funnest in large part because of all the fun things I got to do with MotivAsian!.

 When did you join MotivAsians?
I joined Motivasian in May 2014, shortly after seeing the MotivAsians booth at the Cleveland Asian Festival. I figured these guys looked like they know how to have fun so why not.

How has MotivAsians impacted your life in a positive way?
I have definitely gone out a lot more this past year, especially with the Motivasian dragon boat team. My car odometer spiked up from 3k miles a year to 7k miles this past year as a testament to how much fun I had.

What do you hope to see for the MotivAsians community in the future?
I think we should have a MotivAsian marathon group! We should also have more CLE tours!

How long have you lived in Cleveland?
5 years.

 When did you join MotivAsians?
2010.

How has MotivAsians impacted your life in a positive way?
When I moved to Cleveland five years ago, MotivAsians provided an easy, fun way for me to meet young professionals who were interested making new friends and professional contacts, while also getting  involved with the community. One of the things I like most about MotivAsians is that we host a wide variety of professional events, while not making every event a staid “mixer” or a “networking activity” (and  being the Director of Events, I am always open to suggestions for making our activities even more interesting for our members!). It’s also nice to hang out with people who are not all in the same profession (no  offense to lawyers!).

What do you hope to see for the MotivAsians community in the future?
The MotivAsians community continues to grow, so I am looking forward to meeting new people from all sorts of different backgrounds and professions. I hope that we can continue to expand our work in the community with more volunteering and outreach events. I’d also like to see more Discover Cleveland events, which are always a great way to learn about the exciting transformation going on in Cleveland. I really think these kinds of shared explorations connect people to the city, and are a great way to introduce people to the MotivAsians community and the Cleveland community at large. Finally, I am also looking forward to more events and collaboration with other YP groups in Cleveland. I think we have an exciting year coming up, and members should definitely forward me any great event ideas so we can make them happen!

How long have you lived in Cleveland?
I was born in Chicago, as my parents met there in the 70s after immigrating from Poland and Taiwan. I consider myself a lifelong Clevelander, as I have lived all throughout Cleveland (west-side, Lakewood, South Euclid, East Cleveland, University Circle, Cleveland Heights!) since my family moved here when I was 3 yrs old.

When did you join MotivAsians?
I first heard about MotivAsians in 2009 and remember feeling so excited that a group like it existed! I attended a happy hour event, met some members, and have been a part of it ever since.

How has MotivAsians impacted your life in a positive way?
Being a part of MotivAsians has given me a sense of belonging that I didn’t even realize was missing in my life. Being a minority my entire life in school, work, friendship circles and professional networks had become such a norm. Getting updates from MotivAsians on what is going on in the community, opportunities to volunteer/engage in, and attending events that celebrate Asian culture and diversity is such a breath of fresh air and wonderful reminder to embrace who we are and how much more work needs to be done in our community.

What do you hope to see for the MotivAsians community in the future?
I hope for MotivAsians to continue to grow as an organization and expand its membership to include a spectrum of members in different stages of life (students, young professionals, seasoned professionals, families). Also to begin to have targeted initiatives (i.e. voting, tutoring in local schools, access to benefits, etc.) and also have more annual signature events (i.e. award ceremonies, fund raiser, panel, etc.)

How long have you lived in Cleveland?
I actually live in Akron which is only 40 minutes away but I’m in Cleveland quite often for business and to socialize. I moved to Akron from Pennsylvania in 2000 but even while living in in another state, I would  travel to Cleveland occasionally to experience the unique Asian culture there.

 When did you join MotivAsians?
I first became aware of this fabulous group three years ago at the Cleveland Asian Festival where MotivAsians had a “booth”. However, I did not officially become a member until earlier this year.

How has MotivAsians impacted your life in a positive way?
I am very happy and honored to be part of MotivAsians of Cleveland because it has given me a sense of belonging. It is great to find a group of people like MotivAsians with similar cultural backgrounds to network  and socialize with in North East Ohio.

What do you hope to see for the MotivAsians community in the future?
I would love to see MotivAsians grow in size, representing multi-cultural diversity in North East Ohio. It would also be great for us to build healthy relationships with professional, social outreach and governmental  organizations to promote our community visibility in the geographical area.

How long have you lived in Cleveland?
I relocated to Cleveland from Sunnyvale, CA, with my family in summer of 1995.

When did you join MotivAsians?
I joined MotivAsians as in 2003 as a member, and served on the management team from 2006 to 2010. Now I am a retiring member 🙂

How has MotivAsians impacted your life in a positive way?
MotivAsians is more than just a professional organization, but an extended family to me. Many people I met through MotivAsians, from the founders to current leadership team and members, have become my mentors and good friends.

The professional resource, support network, and friendship that MotivAsians has provided me on both professional and personal level is invaluable. Thank you, MotivAsians!

What do you hope to see for the MotivAsians community in the future?
As MotivAsians continues to focus on its three core aspects, community development, professional & leadership development, and networking, I hope to see the organization collaborate with other Asian American professional organizations in and out of state to provide even greater resources and network for its members.

How long have you lived in Cleveland?
My whole life! Love the 216!

 When did you join MotivAsians?
Five years ago or so. I read a Plain Dealer article about MotivAsians’ past President, Vi Huynh, and the good work he was doing through MotivAsians. I gave  him a call to grab a drink and the rest is history.

How has MotivAsians impacted your life in a positive way?
I’ve become much more connected to and wired into efforts to strengthen, uplift, and promote the Asian-American community in Cleveland. Plus, I’ve gained new friends and business connections.

My whole life!

When did you join MotivAsians?
2009.

How has MotivAsians impacted your life in a positive way?
I have lived in Cleveland all my life and, like most natives, I took it for granted. MotivAsians opened my eyes to the cultural diversity, growth opportunities and hidden treasures that this city has to offer, making Cleveland not only my home but also my passion. Serving as Co-President for MotivAsians has given me the opportunity to give back to the city that I love, while meeting amazing and influential peers and leaders in the community.

What do you hope to see for the MotivAsians community in the future?
I hope to see the MotivAsians community grow socially, professionally and civically. We have the opportunity to make a difference everyday, and I hope that MotivAsians will continue to be known as an organization whose members make a positive impact in the community.

How long have you lived in Cleveland?
Over two decades. My parents moved here from Massachusetts shortly after they immigrated. I have grown to love C-town—I met my loving husband here, started my career working for the City and graduated from Cleveland State University. My current M.D. program is also Cleveland based, as a partnership between Cleveland State and Northeast Ohio Medical University.

When did you join MotivAsians?
I signed up for MotivAsians on May 17th 2012. MotivAsians co-hosted the Asian Pacific American Heritage Day Cleveland City Hall. I was extremely impressed by the professionalism and enthusiasm demonstrated by the MotivAsians management team and volunteers and decided that I wanted to be a part of the organization.

How has MotivAsians impacted your life in a positive way?
The multi-talented MotivAsians management team created a plethora of events that made my past two years memorable. I met many useful contacts in networking events. I attended amazing outings at NASA, the Museum of Art and many local hangouts. I gained the chance to volunteer in Cleveland Asian Festival and Senior Games. I even medaled in a Dragon Boat race. Above all, I met many amazing and caring friends who share my interest and my love for Cleveland. The incredible friendship has provided me with the important support and encouragement to pursuit my academic and career goals.

What do you hope to see for the MotivAsians community in the future?
I love all the awesome events carefully and thoughtfully organized by the management team now. With MotivAsians’ strong leadership, the organization will surely grow in membership and its influence in Greater Cleveland. I look forward to seeing MotivAsians strengthen its collaboration with the Corporations and Community Organizations to further support local business, to continue serving the community, to promote our City and to drive the growth of Cleveland. I believe MotivAsians will play a key role in making C-town even more vibrant and attractive city in which to live, work and invest; especially for the Asian-American professionals.

How long have you lived in Cleveland?
It has been about 20 years since I moved from Japan. I have been living in Canton/Akron area since.

When did you join MotivAsians?
I had no idea until last year that such an awesome organization exists in Cleveland OH!

How has MotivAsians impacted your life in a positive way?
Oh boy where can I start… “Life changing experience” might be a exaggerating statement but the Motivasians allowed me to rediscover Cleveland as a brand new place to be connected to. I met many fellow Asians and made new friends too. I receive great information about a variety of culturally inspired events that I can participate in.

What do you hope to see for the MotivAsians community in the future?
It is very encouraging that other Asians are motivated to do something for the community and making differences. I hope to see more diverse international gatherings that Motivasians can lead the way!

How long have you lived in Cleveland?
I am originally from Michigan, however, I moved to Cleveland 3.5 years ago from Ann Arbor, MI, for the job at CCF.

When did you join MotivAsians?
I joined MotivAsians a month after moving to Cleveland, as I moved to the city without knowing anyone (except for 2 other Umich alum). I googled “Asian young professionals and Cleveland” and the MotivAsians website appeared. They were having their annual BBQ, so I went to it (without knowing anyone) and ended up making friends and connections there which make up my community here in Cleveland.

How has MotivAsians impacted your life in a positive way?
MotivAsians has definitely impacted my life in a positive way, as it has helped Cleveland feel like a “home” for myself. Moving to a new city with no family or friends around is a rather hard transition- MotivAsians has made Cleveland seem more like “home” and has given me the opportunity to really serve the city as well as make incredible friendships. MotivAsians has really exposed me to the Asian community here in Cleveland, as well as helped developed myself as a young professional.

What do you hope to see for the MotivAsians community in the future?
I hope to see MotivAsians continue to grow- having established relationships with companies ERG groups around the city of Cleveland. I also hope to see MotivAsians mix with the other multicultural organizations around the city- where we can learn how to really unite together to help serve the city of Cleveland as well as developing as professionals in our current careers.
